Joel Levi for Indiana House District 37

A voice for all Hoosiers.

Today, Indiana’s Statehouse is out of step with the needs of everyday people. As someone who has a working class job, has a family, and understands the pressure of rising costs, I know firsthand what Hoosiers are up against. We deserve leaders who will speak up for our families, our communities, and our future.

Here’s what’s at stake:

Rising Energy Costs

Lawmakers are rushing to bring energy-hungry data centers to Indiana without requiring them to build new, clean energy infrastructure. That means residential ratepayers, ordinary Hoosiers like you and me, will end up footing the bill through higher utility costs, while corporations avoid responsibility.

Public School Funding Is Dwindling

Legislators in our Statehouse are working at a furious pace to expand the voucher program in Indiana. The concept for the voucher system was created as a bridge for families that couldn't quite afford the private school that they wanted for their children. As the family income caps continue to grow with each passing legislative session, vouchers have turned into a discount for families who can already afford to send their children to a private school of their choosing. This has turned Indiana's K-12 education into a feast and famine scenario. Private schools continue to benefit and then raise their tuition, while public schools are being told to do more with less.

Outdated Medicaid Limits Are Hurting Working Hoosiers

Too many Indiana lawmakers assume people on Medicaid aren’t working, but that’s just not true. I know plenty of Hoosiers who work full-time and still rely on Medicaid because they simply can’t afford private insurance.

Outdated income limits are pushing working families off coverage, not because they’re doing better, but because costs everywhere else are rising: groceries, rent, gas, child care.

Taking away Medicaid doesn’t solve anything. It just forces people to delay care until it becomes an emergency, which drives up hospital costs and pushes families deeper into debt. We need leaders who understand what working Hoosiers are really going through, and who will stand up for them.

It’s Time for Something New

I have a working-class job and a middle-class life thanks to my hardworking wife, a nurse practitioner. I know the struggles Hoosiers face because I live them every day.

I’m not a career politician. I’m a voice for working and middle-class families who’ve been ignored for too long. The people in our Statehouse aren’t listening. It’s time for change.
